SCF Athletic Teams Help Unload Buses for Local Food Programs

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 16, 2018) — The softball and basketball teams at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) volunteered to help “unstuff” 16 buses filled with food as part of The Food Bank of Manatee’s Stuff the Bus campaign. The two teams helped unload nearly 89,000 pounds of food during the Sept. 30 event.

The annual “Stuff the Bus” campaign is part of the largest food drive in Manatee County. All donations collected are unloaded at a warehouse and then distributed to The Food Bank of Manatee’s 115 agencies and food pantries in Manatee County. Much of the food feeds about 18,000 children in Manatee County who depend on the donations, according to the food bank.

For the past five years, SCF’s softball team has worked with other volunteers to “unstuff the bus” at the warehouse. This year the Manatees’ basketball team joined the effort. The two teams got a good feeling by contributing to the community. And by helping to unload 89,000 pounds of food, they also got a good team workout.
