Forensic Scientist Shares Career Success Story at SCF

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 23, 2018) —The American Chemical Society student affiliate club at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) continues its alumni speaker series at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. in Room 106, Building 29 as Ed Cole shares his path to a career in forensics. Cole is a Forensic Autopsy Technician in Manatee County’s District Twelve Medical Examiner’s office.

Cole started his career in the Coast Guard where he qualified for the GI Bill, which enabled him to afford college. He came to Manatee Community College (MCC), now SCF, where he discovered a passion for science. After receiving his degree at MCC, he transferred to the University of South Florida where he majored in chemistry.

Cole started working with the medical examiner’s office in 2007. He said the job requires knowledge in anatomy, histology, toxicology, chemistry and, most of all, empathy. He will discuss his career path and working in the industry. The seminar is free and open to the public.
