SCF Speaker Offers Insights on Midterm Elections

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 30, 2018)—The film club and library at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host a film and lecture on the midterm elections at 9:30 a.m., Nov. 9, in Rooms 143 and 146 at the Library & Learning Center, SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W.  The event is free and open to the public.

The morning starts with a screening of the film “Constitution USA: A More Perfect Union.” The one-hour film is an exploration of federalism, the structure the founders of the Constitution set up as a delicate system of power sharing between the states and the national government. Following the film, Lars Hafner, a political analyst and consultant for WTSP-TV, will offer “The Message in Our Midterm Elections.”

Hafner has an extensive career in government, education and media. He served in the Florida House of Representatives for 12 years, was a provost at St. Petersburg College and served as SCF’s fifth president. Hafner authored and helped pass legislation on education, ethics, health, the environment and human services.  Since 2013, he has been regularly associated with WTSP-TV.

Raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, he received his bachelor's degree from State University of New York at Buffalo, a master's degree from the University of Maryland and a doctorate in leadership and education/higher education administration from Barry University.

Future topics in the series will address issues of immigration and poverty.
