SCF Model UN Team Wins Distinguished Delegation Award

(Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 29, 2018)—The fall Model United Nations group from State College of Florida, Manatee Sarasota (SCF) recently brought home several top awards from the Southern Regional Model United Nations conference in Atlanta. SCF won for Best Position Paper and the Distinguished Delegation Award for team-wide performance at the conference.

The conference included 550 students from 40 two-year and four-year colleges and universities from around the country. SCF, which represented the Republic of South Africa, sent ten students, the biggest delegation the college has ever sent. SCF’s award for best position paper was the 12th consecutive win for having one of the highest average position paper scores.

Dean Elnaas and Bryan Lounsberry, who served as head delegate, won individual Outstanding Delegate Awards for the work on the General Assembly Plenary Committee, dealing with topics on humanitarian relief after natural disasters and the economic effects of migration.

The rest of the team included Francesca Donnelly, Joseph Dotson, Hunter Fioretto, Grant Gerber, Pierce Gerber, Riley Lewellen, Isaac Ortiz, and Leonela Sanchez Castillo. The team includes students from all SCF campuses and SCF Collegiate School.

SCF’s Model UN team will represent the United Kingdom at the conference in Charlotte, North Carolina in the spring. For more information, contact Daniel Fuerstman, team coach and associate professor, at FuerstD@SCF.edu or 941-363-7272.
