SCF Alumnus and Pharmacist Shares Career Success Story

(Bradenton, Fla., Feb. 14, 2019)The American Chemical Society student affiliate club at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) continues its alumni speaker series at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W., Building 29, Room 106 as Dr. Ashley Cubillos shares her path to becoming an infectious diseases clinical pharmacy specialist. The event is free and open to the public with no reservation required.

Cubillos currently works at Lee Health in Fort Myers, Fla., where she oversees the system’s antimicrobial stewardship program and supports all aspects of optimal antibiotic use within the acute care hospitals. Recently, she implemented a pharmacist-driven tool within a hospital electronic health record to drive improved use of carbapenem antibiotics.

She completed her pre-pharmacy education at State College of Florida Manatee, and her PharmD at LECOM-Bradenton School of Pharmacy. Her postgraduate residency training includes a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Lee Health, and a PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency at the University of Minnesota Medical Center.

In addition to sharing her education journey, Cubillos will talk about the need to develop an interdisciplinary culture of antimicrobial stewardship within health systems, both in hospitals and in the community and, to preserve the use of antibiotics for generations to come.
