(Bradenton, Fla., Mar. 12, 2019)Twelve faculty from State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) participated as volunteer judges during the recent Manatee Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematic (STEM) Fair hosted at Manatee Technical College. Faculty who participated include Michael Bellissimo, Eric Cintron, James Condor, Daniel Fuerstman, Kim Ghiselin, Priscilla Glanville, Altay Ozgener, Davidson Pierre, Jason Reed, Joshua Schulte, Robert Shollar and Kristen Zaborski.

The STEM Fair competition, which is divided into high school and middle school divisions, featured a total of 130 student projects. The students presented and defended their projects and research in a variety of areas determined by the State Science & Engineering Fair of Florida (SSEF).

As judges, SCF professors interviewed students about their projects, determined finalists and promoted future research in a STEM field. Judges also nominated students for special awards and submitted recommendations for the state competition.

The main objectives of the SSEF are to recognize scientific talent in young people; introduce students to organized research; provide teachers a forum for the exchange of ideas; and focus attention on STEM, thus stimulating student, teacher and public interest.
