SCF Instructor Nicolette Mason Receives UFF Award of Distinction

(Bradenton, Fla., July 23, 2019)The United Faculty of Florida (UFF) chapter at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) selected Nicolette Mason to receive its Union Award of Distinction for Spring 2019. Mason is an instructor in the Language and Literature department at SCF.

The Union Award of Distinction recognizes the achievements of SCF faculty members who have gone above and beyond their normal duties. Mason was selected by a committee of her peers and union members. She received a plaque and a $500 award. 

Mason’s important contributions to the community include serving as chair of the Venice Green Team to support sustainability, serving on the board of the Lemon Bay Playhouse, sponsoring a panel discussion of legal experts on the topic of sexual harassment and volunteering at numerous student outreach events. She is an active supporter of public programs sponsored by other academic departments at SCF and volunteers at the SCF Foundation’s “Evening Under the Stars” fundraiser. 

In the classroom, Mason makes it a mission to engage with students and share her own joy for the subject matter of her courses. She encourages her students toward community involvement and personal growth.

The Union Award of Distinction is presented biannually to recognize one faculty member for the Fall term and another in the Spring semester.
