SCF Biotechnology Program to Host Open House for Current and Prospective Students

(Bradenton, Fla., August 15, 2019)The biotechnology program at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will host a free open house Tuesday, Aug. 20, 5-6:30 p.m., Building 26, Room 220, at SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. The open house is a networking opportunity for current students, alumni, local industry professionals and faculty members. Visitors can tour SCF’s state-of-the-art labs and learn about the program’s biotechnology specialist certificate and Associate in Science degree. Light refreshments will be served.

The open house will also be an opportunity to meet new natural sciences faculty member Heather Marshall. Marshall holds a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering and biotechnology. She has conducted extensive research in shark physiology, including performing tagging and blood sampling projects around the world to study migratory cold-water species, such as sandbar, dusky and hammerhead sharks.

SCF’s biotechnology program provides students with hands-on experience to develop technical laboratory skills and prepare for careers in life science fields. Students graduate prepared to work for local industries and research organizations or transfer to a four-year program.
