SCF Music Theatre Ensemble Presents The Secret Garden

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 8, 2019)State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) Music Theatre Ensemble presents the Tony-award winning musical “The Secret Garden” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 at the David S. & Anne V. Howard Studio Theatre, Bldg. 11 East, SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. Reserved seats are $15 for the general public, $10 for SCF employees and $8 for SCF students.

“The Secret Garden” is a story filled with healing, wonder and forgiveness. Orphaned in India, Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his sickly son Colin. Mary discovers a hidden, overgrown garden that once belonged to her uncle’s deceased wife. With the help of new friends and spirits from the past, Mary learns that with tender care and love, hope can bloom again.

SCF’s production of “The Secret Garden is directed by Melodie Dickerson, director, choral/vocal studies, features a 15-piece orchestra directed by Rex Willis, professor of theory and composition, and choreography by Kelly Burnett, instructor of dance. The 22-person cast includes students from the SCF Music program and the State College of Florida Collegiate School (SCFCS). Based on the beloved novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, with lyrics by Marsha Norman and music by Lucy Simon, “The Secret Garden” is offered by special arrangement with Samuel French, Ltd.
