SCF Music Presents “Music That Should Never Have Been Written”

(Bradenton, Fla., Oct. 22, 2019)The Symphonic Band at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) will present a concert featuring compositions of “Music That Should Never Have Been Written” at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 14 at SCF’s Neel Performing Arts Center, SCF Bradenton, 5840 26th St. W. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for SCF employees and students.

Beautiful, uplifting and poignant art can be inspired and created in the midst of tragedy. The SCF Symphonic Band will perform a selection of sometimes painful, sometimes joyous compositions about events that should never have occurred, including:

  • "An American Elegy," written in response to the Columbine High School shooting.
  • "Of Our New Day Begun," written to honor the nine beautiful souls killed in Charleston, S.C. at the Mother Emanuel Church.
  • "Boston Strong," written to commemorate the indomitable spirit of the people of Boston following the tragic Boston Marathon bombing.
  • "Into the Silent Land," composed to reflect the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy.
  • "In My Father's Eyes," dedicated to the 1963 bombing victims of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.
