SCF Students Win Prize for Poster on Alzheimer’s Disease

(Bradenton, Fla., Nov. 5, 2019)State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) students enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program won first place in a poster presentation competition at the Florida Dental Hygiene Association’s Annual Symposium.

Second-year students Maggie Aouby, Marla Kolter and Amber Peyton took top honors, including a $250 prize, for their poster “The Missing Link to Alzheimer’s,” which presented research on whether bacteria found in the mouth can be a contributing factor to Alzheimer’s Disease. The students dedicated their presentation to the memories of family members who suffered from the disease.

The group competed against programs from across the state. A panel of three judges awarded the SCF students first place after hearing a five-minute presentation from each group, followed by a Q&A session.
