SCF Study Abroad Program Returns With Successful Trip to Italy and Greece

Bradenton, Fla. Aug. 9, 2022

(Bradenton, Fla., August 9, 2022) – Students from State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) traveled to Italy and Greece for 10 days this summer to study European history as part of SCF’s summer semester study abroad program. The journey was the first edition of the program since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and included guided tours, educational workshops, and visits to places of significance, including the Roman Colosseum, Sistine Chapel, Parthenon, and several other.

The group, led by Michael Rogers, SCF professor of history and politics, spent time in Florence, Rome, Athens and Delphi. Each day the group met with local and expert guides for tours and lectures, seeing and learning about historic monuments and artifacts. The students were required to keep journals during their trip to document their experiences and were required to write a paper and give a class presentation upon returning. The trip had originally been planned for summer 2020, but for Rogers and students it was worth the wait.

“It was great to resume traveling and studying abroad again,” said Rogers. “The students were excited to be part of our epic journey to study European history and Western Civilization. It was an educational experience they will always cherish.”

The trip was held in coordination with Education First College Study Tours. The study abroad program will continue in 2023, with Rogers planning a 13-day trip to study the Holocaust in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Cities on the itinerary will include Berlin, Munich, Warsaw and Prague.
