DESCRIPTION:Sea Turtle Research In The Gulf\nPresented by the SCF STEM Learning Community\nWednesday\, Oct. 14\, 2026\nFrom 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at SCF Bradenton\, Natural Science (Bldg. 25A)\, Room 117 \nLakewood Ranch will also be doing a viewing of the workshop in the Center for Innovation and Technology\, Room 134 \nJoin virtually: https://teams.microsoft.com/meet/274825216484756?p=vlhbrb28Pc0huj4y5O \nResearcher Dr. Jake LaSala from Mote Marine will be coming to talk to students about his journey into Marine Biology as well as share about his Research with Sea Turtles. \nThe sea turtle conservation and research program (STCRP) at Mote Marine Laboratory has been monitoring the nesting beaches in Sarasota and Manatee counties since 1982. Sea turtle nesting numbers have seen record growth primarily due to conservation efforts and citizen science. STCRP tags sea turtles at night to learn more about individual behavior and how it impacts their populations. Research projects are aided by students annually and we will talk about some of the most recent projects and other STCRP projects.
