Join us as we celebrate SCF's 60th Anniversary (1957-2017)
Established Sept. 17, 1957, SCF is an integral part of the community and a vital resource for students and their families in Manatee, Sarasota and surrounding counties. Also known as Manatee Junior College and Manatee Community College, SCF has graduated more than 47,000 students since its first commencement in 1959.
During its 60th anniversary year, the College will host community festivities open to the public on each of the campuses and will top off the year with a college-wide event. Recognition and celebration of the anniversary also will take place throughout the year during commencement ceremonies, employee events, and State College of Florida Foundation’s community awareness events. SCF announcements for each event will be released as they draw closer including the Foundation’s Scholarship Luncheon, Avenues and Evening Under the Stars.
Dr. Carol Probstfeld, SCF’s sixth president, follows a tradition of being an innovative leader, as well as being a state and community ambassador, boldly engaging the entire community. SCF’s administration finds pioneering ways to pursue programs, offer workforce training to the area’s businesses and workers, and to support new and existing academic programs as well as the College’s faculty.
“I am honored to be the president as we recognize this milestone and invite the community to join us as we celebrate our 60 years of accomplishments,” Dr. Probstfeld said. “Over my 13 years here at SCF, I have witnessed so many forward-looking ventures and am even more excited about the endeavors we have yet to begin.”
Serving more than 15,000 students each year, SCF offers a complete college experience that includes athletics, more than 40 student clubs and organizations, honors programs and student-centered academics. And over its 60 years, SCF has continuously expanded its physical footprint and its degree and certificate offerings in direct response to student and community needs for growth industries.
