Opera lovers and potential opera lovers will enjoy six first-class performaces by outstanding singers at the famous Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy, covering 200 years of operatic art. The performances, captured in their beauty on DVD, will be preceded by a short introduction to the history of the Teatro alla Scala itself and by basic information about the opera and the performers. A short discussion will follow the viewing. The six-week program will include: Lo frate 'nnamorato (1732), Pergolesi; Casi fan tutte (1789), Mozart; Gugliemo Tell (1829), Rossini; Lucia di Lammermoor (1835), Donizetti; I vespri Sicillani (1855), Verdi; and La Fanciulla del West (1910), Pucci. Note that this is an extended-time class to accomodate the demands of opera performance.
