English for College and Communication
What is English for College and Communication (EFCC)?
This is a beginner English class for speakers of other languages (ESOL or ESL). Each week, you will receive instruction in speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar. This is a challenging academic class. You will be expected to complete homework, study, attend and participate regularly in the class, and take tests. The class is designed for those who plan to eventually attend college at SCF. However, you may also participate if you simply want to improve your English comprehension and communication skills.
Students who complete this class may be eligible to continue with English for Academic Purposes (EAP). Qualified students can meet with Admissions staff who will assist with the application to SCF. The goal is to help you move into college courses or even pursue a degree at SCF. For students who are interested, this may be possible after completing EAP.
What is required to enroll?
You must be a U.S. resident or have a tourist visa.
This class is not for F-1 international students and does not issue student visas. If you are an F-1 international student seeking a student visa to attend college, contact International@SCF.edu.
When are the classes?
Classes are offered a few times each year (spring, summer, and fall) and may be available at one or multiple campuses. Schedules vary but range from 8 to 12 weeks in duration. For schedules and registration, please visit SCF.edu/Training. If you have questions or need assistance with registration, contact our office at 941-363-7264 or LifelongLearning@SCF.edu.
What is the cost?
The cost may vary based on duration but is typically $500 and includes tuition and books. Payment is due at the time of registration. Financial aid is not available for this class. However, your employer may be willing to help with this cost.
After completing English for College and Communication (EFCC), students who register for EAP at SCF are eligible for a $250 refund. This is made possible by a scholarship and is not guaranteed. Please check with our staff to ensure funding is still available.
