Meet Allison: Working Toward a Second Degree in Health Services
Bradenton, Fla. Mar. 27, 2026
Allison Woronick has always enjoyed interacting with people, especially children. As a child, she thought about becoming a doctor, a veterinarian or a caretaker. Now, she is continuing her education toward a health services profession, so she can help improve care and lives.
“I want to gain insight into management and leadership qualities and skills, along with examples of organizational issues in health care,” said Woronick. “My goal is to have a career that I am excited about and that pushes me further. I want to work for the betterment of others, whether it concerns their physical or mental health or putting a smile on their face.”
Born and raised in Florida, Woronick lived in Venice for 20 years before moving to Sarasota. She got her first job during high school at her uncle’s truck repair shop, where she gained experience in customer service, teamwork, communication and a positive work ethic.
While her parents encouraged her to pursue higher education, they also emphasized the importance of finding her own path. “College was always in the books for me,” Woronick said. “College is an opportunity to prove whether you can take the time to complete an elongated, specialized study. Raising a family is my ultimate goal, so becoming financially stable and gaining the correct parenting skills would be my mission.”
After graduating from high school, Woronick started her higher education journey at Florida Atlantic University. She transferred to State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) in January 2024, earned an associate in arts degree from SCF and is now pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in the college’s Health Services Administration program.
Transferring to SCF enriched Woronick’s life. She now lives closer to her parents, benefits from affordable tuition and enjoys smaller, personalized classes on the calm, lush SCF Venice campus.
“Once I made the switch, I realized it was the right move,” Woronick said. “The positive and engaging culture integrated within a diverse community of people and skills is a huge benefit. I chose to commit to SCF because of the encouraging staff and faculty and outgoing students, who have opened my eyes to the vast amount of career options.”
Woronick views financial assistance and motivational support as important for students’ ability to keep moving forward with their education.
“When it comes to paying for college, financial aid is a factor that allows students to succeed at SCF,” Woronick said. “Bright Futures, financial aid through FAFSA and the SCF Foundation offer great scholarship opportunities and financial support for those who apply and qualify.”
In addition to her studies, Woronick works as a student employee for the SCF Venice Department of Public Safety. Her supervisor, Matthew Kenne, campus resource officer, has made the biggest impact on her at SCF through his encouragement and appreciation.
“I have conquered personal issues that affected my personal and work life,” Woronick said. “Matt has been with me every step of the way, and I have seen qualities in him that I admire and want to replicate in my future career. He inspires me to be the best version of myself.”
While in her program, Woronick hopes to secure an internship at a medical facility. After she completes her program in Summer 2026, she wants to start a medical job and grow in her career.
“A health care facility or hospital, like Sarasota Memorial Hospital, is my ideal work environment,” Woronick said. “I can have a fulfilling purpose and help others, while ensuring patients’ safety and quality of care.”
Outside of SCF, Woronick enjoys spending time with her boyfriend. They love visiting Disney World and other Orlando attractions, exploring new coffee shops, relaxing at the beach and playing with their two cats.
Woronick is grateful for her loved ones and a positive mindset, which she pays forward.
“I learn from the people in my life every day,” Woronick said. “I have been proud of my ability to cope with change because I have always struggled with change. Now, I focus on uplifting myself and those around me.”
In the future, Woronick wants to travel in the U.S. and other countries. The Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park, Europe and Asia are her top destinations.
Through small classes, financial aid and a supportive college community, SCF inspires students like Allison to further their education, explore career pathways and gain job internship experience.
