SCF Communications and Marketing Rakes in Awards at National Competition

(Bradenton, Fla., March 15, 2022) — State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota’s (SCF) Communications and Marketing (CAM) department has won 11 awards in the 37th annual Educational Advertising Awards competition. More than 2,000 entries were received from over 1,000 colleges, universities, secondary schools and elite agencies from all 50 states and several foreign countries, including acclaimed public institutions like the University of Florida and Auburn University, as well as prominent private universities like Princeton and Vanderbilt. Every entry CAM submitted received some form of recognition from the judging panel of higher education marketers, advertising creative directors and advertising professionals, who evaluate entries for their content, design and impact.

SCF won one gold, three silvers, three bronze and five merit awards. The top prize was awarded in the newspaper advertising category for a full-color comic-style ad featuring Marvelous Maverick the Manatee. Silver recognitions went to the 2020 Annual Scholarship Luncheon fundraising video, a series of magazine ads featuring babies in graduation caps, and the Fall 2021 “You’ve Been Served” campaign created in partnership with Serbin Print, Marketing & Publishing. Bronze honors were bestowed for a series of bachelor’s degree newspaper ads, the Spring 2021 Commencement invitation, and the overall fundraising campaign for the 2021 Scholarship Luncheon. Merits were bestowed to a Jenga-themed Flex Start postcard, the 2021-2026 Strategic Plan information packet, a series of “behind the scenes videos” from sports teams’ photo shoots, and Inspire Magazine 2021.

CAM staff who had a role in the winning projects include Jamie Smith, associate vice president of communications and marketing; Ronda Hewitt, former assistant director; Nate March, marketing manager; Mace Thirtle, lead graphic designer; Mitchell Hoeft, graphic designer; Amarin Cannon, digital communications coordinator; Amy Mathew, creative content coordinator; Nick Pascale, webmaster; Patty Strait, administrative assistant; and Jon Stanton, proofreader.

“Our team focuses on making a positive impact and delivering results with each project we take on,” said Smith. “We are proud to earn this recognition and congratulate our peers on the list for their contributions to higher education marketing and advertising.”
