Music

In addition to 36 credit hours in General Education, music students must also take the classes listed below. 

Academic Degree Pathway - Associate of Arts Degree.

First Two Years of Music Courses

  • Incoming students will take a Music Theory Placement Exam
  • Students who score a 70 or better will enroll in Music Theory I (MUT 1111) and Aural Theory I (MUT 1241)
  • Students who score below a 70 will enroll in Music Fundamentals (MUT 1001)
  • Contact the Don Bryn, director of theory/keyboard studies for additional information

Music Theory

After passing the Music Theory Placement Exam or the Music Fundamentals course, students will be permitted into the Music Theory/Aural Theory course sequence below. Music Theory and Aural Theory are co-requisites and are taken simultaneously in the same semester.

Applied Music

Students who are not prepared to enter applied studies at the freshman level should enroll in Applied Preparatory level. Proper placement is determined by the applied instructor. Two credit hours each semester.

Major Ensemble

Choose an ensemble appropriate for the principal instrument/voice. When you register for your ensembles, they will default to “0” credits. You will need to click the “schedule and options” tab to view the screen that allows you to change your credit hours. Change your major ensemble course credit from “0" to “1” hour course. Any other ensemble you take should remain at the “ 0” credit. You can only do this on a computer, not a phone or tablet.
